Around half of those Australians who haven’t retired expect that they will get the age pension at some point in their retirement. More of those in the lower income brackets expect to get it, but nearly 30% of the most affluent also expect they will be on the age pension at some point.

More than 4 in 5 retired women – 83% – and three-quarters of retired men – 76% – expect to get the age pension at some time.
More than half – 58% – of those in the bottom quarter of income expect to get the age pension.
More than a quarter – 29% – of the most affluent (top 10% of income) think they will get the age pension.
