Australians trust public sector organisations more with the privacy of their data. Social media companies such as Facebook, Twitter and Google are the least trusted. The young and females tend to be more trusting, while those who didn't complete Year 12 trust less.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics is the most trusted organisation when it comes to data privacy with 39% of respondents rating it 8/10 or higher.
Two thirds – 67% – gave social media companies a score of 3/10 or less for data privacy.
Universities and Governments (Federal and State) all scored over 5 on a 1-10 scale for trust on data privacy.
Banks, online shops and telecommunications companies all scored 4.8 or less on the 1-10 scale.
