Australians over-estimate how likely it is that they will be infected by COVID-19. A third think it is likely or very likely while the rate of cases in the population is under one in ten. The expectation of getting the virus has fallen from April 2020.

A third of adults surveyed for the ANU Pollthink is it likely or very likely they will be infected with COVID-19 in the next six months.

5.5 %

The expected likelihood of infection has fallen from 40% in April although it is higher than the 32% recorded in May 2020.

10 %

While a third of people think they are likely to be infected, only one in ten actually are.

36 %

Expectation of infection is slightly higher among females (36%) than males (34%).
